Meet the Owner
Yuji Yoshikawa grew up in Saitama, a small city just North of Tokyo. Studying the classic techniques of French cuisine, he polished his skills as a chef for 10 years at “Sumitomo Kaikan”, an exclusive French restaurant in Tokyo.
Upon moving to Sydney in 2005, he was immediately taken in by Suminoya (Martin Place) and worked as a head chef for over 17 years.
With a passion to proudly promote the traditions and culture of Japanese cuisine, he left Suminoya to open his own restaurant, Saza.
In believing that good food puts a smile on faces, he wishes that your smiles will continue to motivate him. IRA-SHAIMASE!
What is Yakitori??
Yakitori are grilled, bite-sized chicken skewers that are seasoned with salt or tare (sauce), and cooked over charcoal.
Most commonly enjoyed together with beer or sake, this tradition has been preserved for over 1000 years, dating back to the Heian era, Japan.
Nowadays, in Japan, many Izakaya restaurants have modernised the dish by not only using chicken, but adding pork, beef, veggies & even seafood into the mix.
Our aim is to bring the true flavours of Japan to you, and what better way to enjoy dinner than with some classic Japanese beers!!
